The Quijos valley

 

Near the capital of Ecuador, a natural destination exists, formed by a spectacular geography. As few places, a small space concentrates six different areas of life. The scientific literature locates to this region among those of bigger biological diversity of the planet. Three of the most excellent Ecuadorian national parks protect most of the valley.

 

Of course, they are endless options and natural scenarios to practice a wide variety of adventure sports and ecotourism

 

Day 1:
The route of the water and life
We enter the Amazonía with an adventure from the Andes: 4 hours of walk through an ecosystem of moors and lakes of high mountain, we observe wild life as the white deer and, with some luck the majestic condor. If the weather allows, we will contemplate a fence of volcanos around.

 

At the end of the path we reach Papallacta , where we dive in relaxing thermal waters that emerge of the bowels of the earth.

We continue the trip, by following the course of the Quijos river. In only one hour, the ecological contrasts are presented like a captivating movie.

 

Day 2:
Sharing in community
The history of the human occupation of this region gets lost in the time. Presently, it is populated by small rural communities who live with simplicity. People are kind, the life is calm and there are no roads neither insecure hours.
Early in the morning we wil learning or practice how to milk a cow in a rural ranch- After breakfast enjoy a hike to Tayos cave and to visit the orchids collection of the Bombón community. In the afternoon you will enyoy a biking tour or by cart to the riversides and properties of the Borja river. Trouts fishing and crop of vegetables for the dinner.

 

Day 3:
Adventure, Adrenaline, Action
According to the season, the weather and
the preferences, the following options exists:

 

Full day Rafting Tour: Ideal season: October to February. Natural scenarios dominated by a spectacular amazon jungle

 

Horse back Riding to the Andean Bear Territory From the forest that surrounds the Countryside of the Quijos, the Andean bear is observing us; and, occasionally it visits us. This adventure is a friendly and respectful riding until the limits of the Cayambe-Coca ecological reserve. Approximate duration: 6 at 8 hours through paths built by peasants that have ranch land in those remote mountains. Diversity of exotic birds, enormous variety of vegetation, strange insects and a beautiful panoramic view of the Quijos valley. With luck an encounter with the Andean bear

 

Bird Watchig: The Quijos valley is a very popular destination for hobby or scientific investigation, they like to observe the immense variety of exotic birds that they inhabit the ecosystem of cloudy forests.In the protected areas , surrounding by the valley the following areas exist: Antisana ecologica reserve: 418 species. Sumaco Napo Galeras National park: 654 species. Cayambe Coca ecological reserve: 450 species.

 

The frequented areas are: mountain range of Guacamayos (macaws); and, head of the Cosanga river, both at a one hour trip from the hostel, but many more exist.

 

Trekking: The valley of the Quijos is a labyrinth of rural paths; that cross incomparable places dominated by the abundant vegetation, enigmatic landscapes and captivating calm.

The variety of alternatives that here exist allow to recommend something interesting for any personal preference.

 

Day 4: Ecotourism
Tour to the waterfalls route

We go by foot, taking the route toward the East and travel 35 kilometers of beautiful tropical landscapes. Small walk until the río Malo fall. If the weather allows it, we descend the river in buoys (between October and February).

We travel 25 kilometers through the green blued valley of the Salado river, until the foot of the El Reventador volcan. We walk through the forest on a wild path; and my god- that beauty!: a natural monument that makes exploit emotions.

Day 5:
Relaxation and exotic traditional culinary
In the morning, free recreational activities inside the hostel and surroundings. Time for the pool, canopy tour, to take pictures, to walk in the community, to take a beer or simply to rest.

At Lunch time: a memorable farewell banquet. Exotic traditional food will be offered. In the afternoon drive back to Quito
