YANAHURCO

 

Hacienda Yanahurco is the largest Andean mountain ranch and private wildlife refuge in Ecuador with 26,000 hectares approximately 65,000 acres only 100 km from Quito. It is a private ecological mountain reserve with comfortable accommodations and full board meals. This private land is totally safe for visitors; it is the only private refuge in the Andes of this size and therefore a sanctuary for a number of endangered species such as the magnificent Andean condor or the rare Spectacle bear. This huge ranch on the Ecuadorian mountains is also a cattle ranch. The local vaqueros and the owner are aware of the importance of its preservation and are actively involved in protecting it, thus protecting the Andean condor, bear, deer, wolves, tapir and all the variety of birds and small animals that live in the area. Hacienda Yanahurco is an integral project to preserve the highland “Páramo” habitat and its various life forms.

 

Day 1.
Quito – Cotopaxi National Park

We will drive along the Panamericana highway well knows as “The Volcanoes Avenue” towards the world’s highest active volcano, Cotopaxi (5,897 meters). During the trip, we will be delighted by the impressive view of different mountains and volcanoes, such as the Pasochoa, the Illinizas, and the Sincholagua. After crossing a Pine forest, we will arrive in Limpiopungo Lake (Clean Lake) which is located 3,800 meters above sea level along the slopes of the magnificent Cotopaxi Volcano. If you wish, we can drive further to the parking lot located at 4,500 meters in order to hike up to the Rivas Refuge at 4,800 meters. (Good health condition is required in order to hike). In the afternoon transport to Hacienda Yanahurco through Cotopaxi fields. Welcome drink and dinner. (BL, D)

 

Day 2
Yanahurco excursion

For those who wake up early, optional cow milking tour. After breakfast, enjoy of a Ranch tour. Hiking or horse back riding activities are offered. Option riding routes: Dead Man’s Rock, Arms Square, Contadero lookout point, Torriuco Towers at a distance of 3 Km to 8 km from the hacienda; Vicious Valley River about 6 km away and the Sebretana cliffs at about 8 km. Fishing in the rivers of the surrounding areas and horseback riding. Box lunch or lunch at the hacienda house will be provided depending on the program chosen. In the afternoon, you will have leisure time for fishing or light walk in order to observe deer. (FB)

 

Day 3.
Jatuncocha Lake

After breakfast 9:30 Departure to the Jatuncocha Lake via Dead Man’s Rock and through the last counter forts of the Eastern Andes Cordillera (Cimarron’s). Arrival time approximately at 13:00 Afternoon for fishing, hiking through Cimarron’s rain forest (FB)

 

Day 4.
Waterfall & Sebretana’s Cliff

After breakfast you will enjoy a trip to the waterfall enjoy the magnificence of this landscape, Campsite lunch at the waterfall. In the afternoon return to the ranch house through the rain forest via Sebretana´s cliffs to see the magnificent condors. Arrive at the ranch house Time to freshen up and rest Dinner Games, music, and dancing and overnight stay. (FB)

 

Day 5
After breakfast ride on a 4x4 vehicle to special sightseeing places, visit el Salitre Pre inca ruins and drive back to Quito. (B)
